I was at three gigs in the last week - in order of how great they were, we have Scout Niblett, Enon and Suede. Suede being less than poor. Enon being brilliant. And Niblett... read on. Alas, it seems that the model is this: the bigger the crowd, the less personal, the less enjoyable. Tonite is Mars Volta nite, so we'll see how that goes...

And so... Scout Niblett... aka Emma Niblett from Nottingham plays Whelans, Dublin on Dec 11th (Colin & Dave: she plays Glasgow the 9th). Ticketmaster is charging a respectable EUR14.50, respectable that is until you note that the gig cost EUR5.00 in Barcelona. Nonetheless... Niblett has been quoted as saying that she tries to "reduce a song to something as simple as a playground chant", and therein folks lies the beauty of the music performed. She moves from guitar to drumkit and back, part female Cobain, part playful percussonist, part shy, thoughtful lyricist. Here's a link to a tune: Link 1

Next - The Charlatans play a DJ set on Friday Dec 12th in Ri-Ra, Dublin. Should be interesting. Thing is, I hate The Charlatans, so I won't be there. Lew, remember you have a free pass!

Then - Sunday Dec 14th sees the Tycho Brahe playing The Project Theatre, Dublin. Dineen (The other Donal!) is putting on an AV show, while the band perform. It's expected that other bands will play on the nite. The Tycho have a nice fraternity of bands around them, so it's bound to be an interesting occasion. It's a cool venue for something like this too. Here's a Tycho Brahe track for those of you Link 2

Finally, best wishes to Melissa who just turned 21, my symbolical 21st Issue001 signee, and fellow Wevie Stonder fan!
